Houghton County 24-Hour Release Options
No official Houghton County Sheriff browser page lists people released today or during a rolling 24-hour period. The official Corrections page identifies the Houghton County Corrections Facility and supplies the corrections contact, but it has no roster, release filter, archive, or published update schedule. It also gives no web field definitions. A current-booking page from an unrelated source cannot be treated as a Houghton County release list.
The absence of a feed changes the first step. Call Houghton Corrections at 906-482-1742 and ask whether the person remains physically housed. If the person left, ask whether the recorded event was release to the community or transfer to another custodian. That distinction matters. A transfer to the Houghton County Work Camp, another county, tribal authority, MDOC, or a federal agency is not community release.

- Use the Sheriff FOIA form to request the existing release form or jail-register entry when an exact timestamp and release type are needed.
- Search MDOC OTIS only if the person entered state custody or MDOC supervision. OTIS does not cover a jail-only Houghton County sentence.
This order prevents a common error. Court paperwork may explain why a person should leave, but it may not show the moment the person crossed the jail threshold. Houghton County Release Record Fields

A release on bond is conditional and usually leaves the criminal case open. “Time served” means the local custodial term was met, but another case, warrant, probation term, or transfer may still apply. “Discharged” is also system-specific. In OTIS, it normally means MDOC jurisdiction ended, which may occur long after a person left prison on parole.
Travel After Houghton County Release
Transportation can become urgent after a same-day release. The jail is next to the Houghton County Courthouse, and the school-year City Commuter Shuttle includes a courthouse stop. Houghton City Transit also publishes weekday on-demand service from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at 906-482-6092. The released person must arrange the trip independently.
No source says the Sheriff schedules rides, that the shuttle stops at the release door, or that weekend service is available. A planned pickup should therefore be confirmed with transit before travel. The jail also publishes no family waiting area, set release door, daily release hour, or property handoff procedure. Bond and Houghton County Release
The Sheriff’s Corrections page directs online bond payments to Allpaid/GovPayNet and identifies PLC number 1364. Payment begins or supports a legal release process, but it is not proof that the person has physically left. Another hold, a second case, court paperwork, transfer directions, or jail processing may still affect custody.
After payment, call Houghton Corrections if immediate status matters. Ask whether all holds have cleared and whether a physical release entry has been made. Later, request the existing bond and release records if durable proof is needed. The court docket can show the bond authority, while the Sheriff record is the better source for the jail-door timestamp.
Note: A bond entry explains one release basis, but only the custody record confirms when and where the person actually left.
Houghton County Release Data Gap
Houghton County’s lack of browser visibility does not mean the underlying record vanished. Michigan General Schedule 11 identifies a jail inmate jacket that may include booking cards, release forms, property forms, transfer papers, bonds, warrants, and other records. The schedule calls for retention until release plus ten years. Retention is not the same as public online access, and it does not guarantee that every jacket has every field.
A focused records request should identify the person, booking period, record type, and desired fields. Ask for the existing booking card and inmate release form, including the release date and time, authority or type, and whether the destination was the community or another custodian. Michigan FOIA covers existing records. It does not require the Sheriff to assemble a new “released today” list or answer a research question.

Houghton County Release App Limits
Houghton County has an official OCV app even though the Sheriff’s browser site has no roster. Local procurement reporting described intended inmate, alleged-charge, bond, and jail-information tools. The official store descriptions, however, do not confirm a recent-release tab, a 24-hour window, release timestamps, or booking photos.
Inspect the live app for its current labels and supplying agency. A current-inmate or booking screen must not be renamed as a release list. If a person drops from an app list, the change could reflect release, transfer, correction, or lag. The Houghton Corrections line and release record remain the authority.

Houghton County Release Status
A release to the community ends physical Houghton County jail custody. A transfer only changes custodians. Someone moved from the Corrections Facility to the Work Camp remains in county custody, including during an approved work trip. A felony commitment to MDOC also means continued confinement after departure from Houghton’s jail.
Use the system that owns the next event. The Sheriff confirms the Houghton facility exit. MiCOURT shows the local court authority. OTIS can show a later MDOC prison, parole, probation, or discharge status, but it excludes jail-only cases. MI-VINE may send a prompt custody-change notice when the record and agency participate, yet the alert is not a certified release instrument.
